MOONLIT SANCTUARY : MY FAVOURITE SANCTUARY IN AUSTRALIA

Meet some of Australia's favourite animals in a sustainable, EcoTourism environment.

Moonlit Sanctuary is by far my favourite sanctuary in all of Australia. The staff takes a real interest in the animals and you get the opportunity to get up close and personal with some kangaroos in a relaxed atmosphere.
Moonlit is about an hour and a half drive from Melbourne, making it a quick and easy day trip. This is the best sanctuary I have ever been to and it is something that I think everyone should experience during their time in Australia. You get to see many of Australia’s unique wildlife up close and personal, without huge crowds. The best part: the wallabies and kangaroos roam the property freely and you are able to feed and pet them! It is definitely the experience of a lifetime and I can’t every recommend it enough.
“Feeding and interacting with the wallabies and kangaroos at Moonlit Sanctuary is an experience that everyone should have a least once. These adorable animals are so gentle.”

I have been three times, and I have learned that the earlier you go, the better. Not only do you beat the traffic and the crowds, but you also get to feed kangaroos and wallabies that are hungry for breakfast. Moonlit opens daily at 10 AM and closes at 5 PM. Tickets are $24 AUD per adult and $12 AUD for children.
As you walk into this cozy, small sanctuary you find there is a wide assortment of Australian animals; over 30 species. We especially enjoyed viewing the sleepy Wombats, the slow Koalas, and the Dingos. After you wander around and take in all the animals, I recommend heading back to the free range kangaroo and wallaby area where you walk a trail and interact with dozens of ‘roos and wallabies that are ready to meet you. I highly recommend purchasing a small bag of food when you enter the park so that you can feed these adorable animals.
I really love that Moonlit Sanctuary is accredited by EcoTourism Australia as their focus is on sustainable tourism in a natural environment. This definitely is not a zoo, and I have found that other places that advertise as sanctuaries are in fact zoos. This small sanctuary really is special, and you have to go see for yourself.
