Obviously New Zealand is known for their wine, and I experience first hand why they are internationally recognised. They have some amazing wines here and on Waiheke Island you get the opportunity to see where some of these spectacular wines are made, and meet the passionate people who make them happen. The Clear Water
OK so this definitely ties into the beaches, but the water here really is so crystal clear blue that it made for some awesome swimming. It was a bit chilly while we were here so we didn’t swim too much, however we met some locals that said there is great snorkeling here too.

The Rolling Green Hills
While driving around and getting lost on Waiheke Island, there were times that I felt like I was in the Lord of the Rings movie. It’s hard to believe that so much land can be so green. I’ve never been anywhere so green before.

The Walking Trails
A unique thing about Waiheke is that there is an intricate system of walking trails, located all around the island. When you arrive on the island you can grab a free map of the trails at the ferry terminal. I highly recommend checking some of these trails out and exploring the island by foot.

The Food
The food scene here is amazing. There are some world-class chefs working at the restaurants on Waiheke and you get delicious meals in a comfortable, cool atmosphere. Our favourite meal of this entire trip was at The Archive Bistro & Bar located at Mudbrick Vineyards. The meal was sensational! Bicycling
A popular thing to do on Waiheke is to rent an e-bike to hope from vineyard to-vineyard. The island is really easy to get around as it’s small, however it is quite hilly which is where the e-bike comes in quite handy. You can rent your bikes at eCycle and spend the day adventuring on two wheels.

The Vibe
It’s hard to explain, but Waiheke is one of those places that just has an amazing vibe. Everyone is in a good mood, the beaches are chill, the restaurants are delicious and comfortable. Maybe it’s the wine? Maybe it's Kiwis? I don't know but I loved the vibe of this island!

Self-Guided TourList Item 1
There are a lot of operators on the island that offer tours. I would recommend staying away from these as I saw them and they were pretty crowded buses of people. If you want a more relaxed, intimate tour of the island- rent a car or an e-bike and ride around solo.

Car RentalList Item 2
The best way to explore Waiheke is by renting a car. Check out my post about it here.
