The Papaya Playa Project is everything you need while staying in Tulum and more.
When I booked the Papaya Playa Project (PPP) online, I really didn't know what I was getting us in to. Full disclosure: I booked this hotel because I had some Starwood Points banked up that I wanted to use, and this was the only boutique property that they had in Tulum. Knowing it was a Starwood property, I trusted it would be decent, and I went ahead and booked it.
PPP exceeded any expectations that I had, and is definitely one of the top 5 hotels I have stayed at, EVER! You enter a serene, jungle-like atmosphere where each room is an individual villa. After walking through the gorgeous property to our private hut, we were amazed at the stunning views we had. It was absolutely breathtaking.
“This eco-chi resort offers the relaxation of a remote destination combined with the swank of a SoHo crowd.”
- Lindsey Farrah
The rooms were very 'Swiss Family Robinson-esque' with rustic bathrooms and a bug net around your bed. This type of lodging is definitely not for everyone, however if you are into complete relaxation and a more natural feel - PPP is for you!
Not only did the accommodations impress us, but the vibe of the hotel was that of a swanky meatpacking district hotel. There was a live DJ every night playing EDM island music and a beach-front bar filled with well dressed islanders. The food was tasty, the drinks were reasonably priced, and the mood was spectacular. There is a very relaxed vibe at this hotel, however the service was quick and reliable.
Hotel Bar
You must grab a drink at this open air bar and restaurant that faces the beach.
One of my favourite things about this property is that there are tons of little nooks & crannies filled with swinging hammocks, beach swings, and small pools; so even when there are tons of guests you feel like you have found your own private slice of paradise. I also loved that there was a juice & smoothie bar on site so it was easy to wake up and grab a healthy breakfast.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We loved our time here and cannot wait to go back.
Cocktails @ the bar.
We loved grabbing cocktails with a view here.
